COOPER PEDY

Kamalan kuuma ilma. Cooper Pedy on myös kaupunki jossa on ihan älyttömät määrät opaalia ja sitä sanotaanki "opal capital of the world".

On the 7th day of Safari we woke up at five. I slept my night really well in a dark cell so the early morning wasn't too bad. And because I knew I've got a whole day to sleep on a bus. On our first stop we had breakfast and time to go to a supermarket to get some food. Next stop was at Woomera, where we stopped for 20 minutes. There was a park which was full of rockets, aircraft and that sort of stuff. It was a really small town in the middle of nowhere. The weather was really hot and the sun was shining so the weather felt even hotter. I just can't understand who is able or willing to live in that kind of place. I never ever could do that...
We left Woomera and headed to Cooper Pedy. However, before Cooper Pedy we stopped at Lake Hart which was a salt lake. Only thing was that there wasn't any water in that lake, only salt. It reminded me of snow, because it was just white everywhere. There isn't much in Central Australia. A rare few plants, hot weather which, of course, means no water. The red sand covers everything and it feels like you are going nowhere when you are driving there, because the landscapes look the same all the time. There are also millions of flies and they are so bloody annoying because they are on your face all the time. In the end I had to buy a fly net hat because I couldn't stand them anymore. We spent about half an hour on the lake and after that I was just sweating and really thirsty. The hotness is unbelievable. Finally we arrived to Cooper Pedy where a tourist guide was waiting for us. Cooper Pedy is a really interesting town, because all the houses and other buildings are built underground. The reason for this is that the temperature in summer is really high and in winter the temperature is really low so the temperature in houses would go from extreme to extreme, so they build their houses underground where the temperature is always about 21 degrees, which is ideal. We visited a church which was underground and from there we went to a museum where we had a opportunity to look at a normal underground home. It actually looked really nice and interesting but I couldn't live in an underground house because they don't have windows and I'd be scared of the house collapsing (which has never happened though). Cooper Pedy is also a town full of opal and they say that it is "opal capital of the world". They had heaps of opal shops and almost every person there works as a miner hoping to find heaps of opal. You should really read more information about Cooper Pedy, because it is a really interesting place. But at the same time it is a place where I could never live. We also slept underground in a big place where was 'rooms' for four. With a room I mean a hole in the wall where a little curtain was used as a door, haha. On that night we had free time which was really good, because it meant time to getting to know each other even better!

  1. You say good morning
    When it's midnight
    Going out of my head
    Alone in this bed
I wake up to your sunset
    And it's driving me mad
    I miss you so bad
